The CMI House, Theni was the first concrete expression of the desire of the Province to open a Mission in Tamil Nadu. Purchasing a land property at Kumily was in view of starting Tamil Nadu Mission. In 1993, Province purchased a plot of 15.75 acres of land and there started a Social Service Scheme with the title, 'Light Two Thousand to Two Hundred Families Project' aiming to give financial help to 200 families selected from the districts of Madurai, Theni, Idukki and Kottayam for housing. Mary Matha Educational and Charitable Society (Sl. No 14 of 1997) was registered on February 11, 1997 in view of running the school under the auspices of the society. In June 1998 Mary Matha Matriculation school was started. Mary Matha CMI Public School, started in 2011 in the sprawling campus, has already become a centre of learning and a cynosure in and around Theni district. The centre was raised to the status of a House on May 16, 2018. Thapovanam which is 30 km away from CMI Centre, is the realization of the dream of Fr Joseph Thondipura for a model Ashram for the promotion of Indian way of sannyasa, ascetical and eco-friendly life with an Ayurvedic herbal garden and treatment centre. In 2021 Thapovananam was sold, and a new plot of 5.25 acres at Devadanapatti was purchased for a new CBSE school. Later 6 acres of land was purchased by Mary Matha Society added to the existing property at Devadanapatti. Additionally, a plot of 6.30 acres of agricultural land was purchased by Mary Matha at Koduvilarpatti for the development of a farm house.
