St Antony’s Carmel Monastery, Puliyanmala is situated in puliyanmala Junction in Kattappana-Munnar-Kumily Road. It was the pioneering efforts of Fr Xavier Pulparampil and Fr Honorius Vaniyapurackal, veteran missionaries of the High Ranges that enabled the Province to buy a plot of land at Puliyanmala in 1951. Later more land was bought in 1960 and constructed a residential building and a Chapel. The building and the chapel were blessed by Mar Mathew Kavukatt, Archbishop of Changanacherry on April 24, 1966. The foundation for a new ashram was laid on March 19, 2010 and was blessed in 2011. St Antony’s Carmel House was raised to the status of a Monastery on 16 May 2018. Obliging to the request of the Ashram as well as that of the people from the neighbouring area, Mar Mathew Vattakkuzhy, Bishop of Kanjirappally, erected a Parish attached to St Antony’s Carmel Ashram on June 10, 1994. On August 5, 1995 the construction of the Church was started and was consecrated on July 21, 1996. Carmel CMI Public School was inaugurated by Dr Cyriac Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of M.G. University on June 17, 2003. Christ College, Puliyanmala, was inaugurated on 31 July 2014 at Chavara Arcade, Kattappana. The College was shifted to the new building at Puliyanmala in August 2017.
