A social service centre and a Boys’ Home were functioning in the Ashram from 1986 onwards. After a few years the Boys’ Home was closed down. When Kubel Foundation sanctioned the High Range Development Scheme at the request of the Department of Social Apostolate of the Province, a branch office of Vikas Yojana Social Service Society, registered at Puthuppally in 1981, was opened at Parappu with Fr Joseph Ayathamattam being the Director. The society developed a Cashew plantation in Theni, Tamil Nadu and as it was incurring huge losses, the land was transferred to the Department of Social Apostolate and constituted a corpus fund to meet the expenses of the annual small-scale programmes and day-to-day running of the society. In 2013, Vikas joined hands with the Department of Social Apostolate and started Chavaragiri Special School. It was under the umbrella of Vikas Yojana, the social work activities of the Province found its momentum.
