Gethsemane Monastery, Palampra is situated about 3 km away from the 26th Mile Junction in Kottayam-Kumily Road, and 1.5 km away from the 26th Mile-Erumely Road. It was the long-cherished dream of Fr William Neriamparampil to start a “Dhyana Mandhiram” at Palampra. A friend of Fr William, Mr K. V. Thomas (Mathuchan) Kollamkulam donated to the Congregation a plot of ten acres of land in 1954. In the same year a lower primary school and a residence was started there. The construction of a house and a chapel was completed in December 1966 with the help of the local people. In June 1975, Palampra house was declared as a renewal cum retreat centre of the Province. And in 1991, Palampra house was raised to the status of a Monastery. The Assumption UP School was upgraded and made High School in 1982. When the erstwhile St Joseph Province was bifurcated in 1979, Gethsemane Monastery was chosen for the Novitiate of the Province till it was shifted to Kappadu in June, 1982. In 1986, Palampra Gethsemane Parish was erected.
