The initiative to start a monastery at Pala was taken by Fr Casimir Alappat on September 1952. About 2.5 acres of land was donated by Mr Varghese Ammiyanickal and Mr Mathew Kattakayam. The foundation stone was laid on January 20, 1953 and was blessed by Mar Sebastian Vayalil, Bishop of Pala on November 7, 1953. In February 14, 1954 this house was canonically erected as a Monastery. The new Monastery and Chapel were consecrated on July 18, 1968 by Mar Sebastian Vayalil. Since 1954, Providence Home, the Old Age Home for the destitute, remained a joint venture of the Monastery in collaboration with St Vincent de Paul Conference, Kizhathadiyoor. Its ownership was transferred to the Monastery in 1956 and in 1985 the management of the home is handed over to the Sisters of Destitute (SD).
