Giri Jyothi Ashram is situated on the hilltop of the border town, Kumily adjacent to the bus station. It was the long-cherished dream of the Province to have a centre between Peerumedu and Kumily and the dream was realized in 1988 by the purchase of 3 acres of land at Kumily on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu Border. The Centre was blessed on February 28, 1988. Giri Jyothi was envisaged as a centre of spiritual and pastoral care as well as a gateway to the future mission of the Province in Tamil Nadu. Giri Jyothi was made as a Pilgrim Centre through the promotion of popular devotion to St Jude. The aim of starting the devotion was to bring about a change of heart through the listening to the Word of God in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. The blessing of the statue of St Jude and the solemn installation of the Saint’s holy relic were conducted in May 2003. A Chapel for the perpetual adoration of the blessed sacrament was built and was blessed on January 2008.
