Marygiri Ashram, Koothattukulam is situated by the side of MC Road. The foundation stone of the church and residence was laid on February 3, 1955. It was of Sacred Heart Province, Kalamassery and later it was transferred to St Joseph Province on September 2, 1959 in exchange of CMI Ashram at Vaikom. Reconstruction of the Ashram happened in 1989. Marygiri CMI Public School was started in 1994 with the support of fervent catholics of the locality. The commendable service and vision of its first Principal, Mrs Leena Mathew and her successors played crucial roles in making Marygiri a dream project of the Province within a short span of time. Attached to the school, there is a boarding house which had its beginning in the ashram building. A parallel college, Marygiri College at the initiative of Fr Mathew Uppani was functioning till 1994. Marygiri college of Arts and Social Science was started in July 2015 in the premises of Marygiri Public school and was shifted to the new building and campus in 2017. Due to a significant decline in student enrollment, the Provincial Council has decided to close the college.
