

St James Monastery, situated on the hilltop of Karikkattoor village is about 1 km from the Karikkattoor junction in Manimala - Erumely highway. Mr Chacko Kakku Keekkirikkatt Puthenpurayil, wanted to build a Church at Karikkattoor in fulfilment of the will of his father. But after his brother Joseph (later Fr Arnold) entered the CMI congregation, Mr Kakku wished to have a monastery in his property and offered 16 Acres of land for the purpose. On November 9, 1936 the donation deeds were executed and the foundation stone for the monastery was laid on November 14, 1943. The construction of the chapel began in 1953 and was completed in 1961. It was blessed by Mar Mathew Kavukatt, Archbishop of Changanacherry, on November 21, 1961. The Monastery Chapel was later raised as the Parish Church in 1971. Cyriac Chavara Memorial (CCM) Secondary School, the first CMI educational institution established in the name of St Cyriac Chavara, was started in 1948. In 2023, on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee, a memorial gate was constructed along with a house for a family in need. the school celebrated its diamond jubilee with great solemnity.
